Equipment Software Acceptance: Check Build Option Evidence

A supplier's equipment software brochure lists an optional reporting feature. The delivered source includes a setting with a matching name, but the buyer has not received evidence that the commissioned software includes that feature. Equipment software acceptance should connect the option to a specific build and the promised observation. The example below is a hypothetical document review, not a report of compiling or operating equipment software.

Put the commissioned feature before the option name

Ask what the procurement agreement means by the feature. It might concern a report format, an integration module or another explicitly described behavior. The supplier should identify the relevant delivery item and the evidence the buyer expects to receive. A familiar option name is a starting point for discussion, not a substitute for an agreed feature description.

For the fictional handover, the buyer receives source material and a separate executable package. The question concerns the executable promised under the commission. A setting visible in the source may help explain the build process while leaving the executable's feature scope unresolved. Keep both items identifiable so a conclusion about one does not quietly become a conclusion about the other.

Read the option in its documented configuration context

The versioned CMake 4.3 option documentation describes a boolean option and explains that project mode creates a boolean cache variable. This is a build-configuration mechanism. It does not demonstrate that a supplier's package used a particular value or that a similarly named commercial feature behaves as promised.

Request the supplier's explanation of how its option relates to the commissioned feature. If conditions or other settings affect that relationship, ask the supplier to identify them. The reviewer should avoid inventing a dependency rule from the spelling of a variable. The applicable project documentation and delivered build context must supply the explanation.

A source-level default also needs interpretation. It may describe an initial choice rather than the final configuration of a particular build. The supplier should identify what was actually used for the delivered package. This article proposes no build commands and does not recommend changing a setting on a production system to see what happens.

Ask which build tree supplied the configuration record

The official Mastering CMake cache chapter explains that cache values persist across runs within a project build tree. This makes the relationship between a supplied configuration record and the relevant build tree important. An unexplained cache excerpt should not automatically be treated as the configuration of every later package.

Ask the supplier to associate its record with the delivered software and the build context it describes. Where a previous demonstration or a different output directory supplied the record, retain that scope. The record may still be useful background, but the buyer needs the missing association before using it as evidence for the commissioned delivery.

Do not request confidential build infrastructure details merely to fill an acceptance form. The parties can agree on an appropriate supplier record or attestation of the relevant association. The important question is whether the explanation is specific enough for the responsible reviewer to assess. No particular private build service is identified in this example.

Keep configuration evidence separate from feature evidence

A configuration explanation can show what the supplier intended to include. The feature observation asks what was actually delivered under the agreed conditions. If a demonstration is part of the commission, identify the package and the expected observable result before it starts. Keep it in an authorized isolated software environment, with operational equipment decisions left to the responsible team.

  • Which delivered package does the configuration record identify?
  • Which commissioned feature does that option affect?
  • What observation remains due before that feature can be accepted?

The reviewer should distinguish the supplier's statement from the observation made. A screenshot of a selected option does not by itself show the resulting feature. Conversely, a demonstrated feature may be clear while the associated build record remains incomplete. Record those findings separately so the supplier can respond to the actual remaining gap.

Accept the supported feature claim and retain open work

A useful completion note connects the commissioned feature, the delivered package, the explained configuration and the observation reviewed. It should identify any limitation in that chain. Avoid a broad all features enabled conclusion when the review addressed one named option. Other modules, platforms or builds remain outside the finding unless their evidence was also examined.

The original diagrams contain no real option values, build logs or performance results. Related procurement topics appear in the smart-equipment collection; the article directory offers further reading. A clear software acceptance explains which feature evidence supports the delivery instead of asking a source setting to carry the entire claim.
